When Power Corrupts, Poetry Cleanses

When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations.  When power narrows the areas of man’s concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of his existence.  When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.  For art establishes the basic human truth which must serve as the touchstone of our judgment.

John F. Kennedy

Given this year’s corrupt and amoral American presidential campaign, these seem like words from another planet–which makes them all the more timely.

Thank you. This lake is in a large public park about one hour drive from Detroit. It’s my favorite around here. It has beach areas and picinic areas, but also a large undisturbed natural area for hiking.

That was so appropriate for our current situation…I’m a first time voter, it is hard enough to sort through all the information out there and make a choice, the candidates are making it even more time consuming…I started blogging just to get my thoughts in order, but I’m loving it here!
