Photo Challenge, Nostalgia: Again I Hear These Waters

The place of my boyhood summer vacations, which surprisingly remains now much the same as it was then; while I have changed much, though I remain in great measure the same.

Once again I hear
These waters, rolling from their mountain-springs
With a soft inland murmur.
William Wordsworth, Lines Composed a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey

Thanks very much, Moon. I’m very happy that you enjoyed the post. It’s nice that we share a feeling for this poem, which I often re-read. If my pics match the poem in your eyes, I consider that a great compliment.

Childhood memories are often an opportunity to find something we need now; I read about Carl Jung, and how he wanted to finish a book but he couldn’t for some reason, he happened to remember an airplane that he had begun to make as a child but never finished — he bought an airplane kit that was similar to the one that he hadn’t finished and spent a long time on it, till it was perfectly made, then, he wrote the rest of his book, one of his most famous and thought provoking works, too.

How wonderful that you went back and took these marvellous photos. 🙂

Thanks for this wonderful anecdote. I totally identify with Jung’s experience and it parallels my own with visiting the place in the pictures. Even looking at the photos themselves, memories and emotions visit me.

Waterfalls are rare in Michigan, especially in the Lower Peninsula. I like the locale for this one, where there are a number of springs emerging from a hillside and then flowing in rivulets into the Au Sable River. With the tall pines, the springs, and the several little waterfalls, there is kind of a magical aura.
