For Those Who Listen

The earth has music for those who listen.
George Santayana

Looking forward to return visits to northern Michigan this summer, in this instance the pristine and melodious Sturgeon River.

The earth certainly does have music (and messages!) for those who listen, but the listening doesn’t happen automatically, as does hearing. One must desire to listen. I don’t know how city-centered people can accomplish that and they are, by far, the majority of people now. No wonder we have so many “environmental” problems. Lovely image. Enjoy your coming summer trips. Our weather has been so cold and wet (not to mention work overload!) that my kayak is still resting from last Fall – unheard of for me, I should have been tracking the currents of the Fraser River for 3 months now. I too am looking forward to my escapes!

My sympathy for the work overload. Kayaking the Fraser–now that sounds challenging! It’s a beautiful river. I still have a mental picture of Hell’s Gate. 🙂

Yes, Hell’s Gate is pretty impressive: hope you were there for the high water run-off, as in June. By comparison where I kayak is quite placid – in the Fraser Valley flat lands, so no white water, just the big whirlpools to watch out for, and of course the chop when the west-flowing currents meet the east-flowing winds in summer afternoons or raised up during our ubiquitous Chinook winds. Now there’s “music” to pay attention to when in the middle of those!
