Sunshine and Feathered Friends

As you can see, I wasn’t the only one to be out enjoying the sunshine and blue skies in our little corner of Michigan.  The local woods is not yet in full-green mode, but the color is definitely trending  in that direction.  Summer will soon be upon us, leaving me with only one question for my feathered friends:  where are the ducklings?

Same here. I was “oot and aboot” yesterday in the kayak. Saw lots of Canada geese and goslings, even a nest on a small island on the Fraser, and lots of mallards, wood ducks, common mergansers and others… but not one baby duck. Usually there are many families of young ducks by this time swimming together. Maybe they feel “spring” isn’t certain yet, waiting for warmer weather. It’s certainly much colder than normal here for this time of year.

Thank you for the Canadian accent. 😉 I have seen some ducklings around here, but not for these two. Now that you mention it, the late cold weather could be discouraging. I always like to see that name, “Fraser.” Calls to mind some great memories.

Is that a turtle sunning on the left side of the log or a rock? We have not seen ducklings yet in our corner of MI but yesterday while walking we did see our first goslings.
