Photo Challenge: Ascent in Ancient Pines

Looking up through the canopy provided by these ancient white pines in Michigan.  Having first visited these woods as  a boy,  I can say with Wordsworth:

While here I stand, not only with the sense
Of present pleasure, but with pleasing thoughts
That in this moment there is life and food
For future years.

What beautiful pictures … Wordsworth’s words fit perfectly. If you have never been, I think you would love his ‘Lake District’ in northern England though these days in summer it has far too many tourists 😊

Thanks for the tip. The closest I have been to northern England is Fife in Scotland, which has its own beauty, perhaps a little wilder than lake country.

I know Fife well and yes, certainly wilder. I was fortunate to have parents who insisted we know our own country before exploring the wider world (with the exception of skiing which took us to the Alps each year) so we spent holidays in many different area of the UK. Of course, being basically a small island that was easy to achieve! I love your pictures and now that I’m grown and allowed to explore the wide world (!) I hope one day to see your beautiful place for myself ☺

Whereas here in Grenoble we have snow on the mountains, of course – they are after all the Alps but the city is clear as it often is. I am certainly adding Michigan to my list. And I have you to thank for it … the only issue is that I have a sneaky hunch I won’t want to leave – it’s my sort of landscape on steroids!

I so appreciate your compliment. There was a long gap in my life where I didn’t really appreciate Michigan, but due to blogging and the warm response of readers like you, I’ve gotten back to my roots. Or, as the Beatles sang, to where I once belonged.
