Photo Challenge: A Tour of Michigan’s Cascades, Gentle and Wild

There is a waterfall in every dream. Cool and crystal clear, it falls gently on the sleeper, cleansing the mind and soothing the soul.
–Virginia Alison

A tour of Michigan would be incomplete  without pausing  along the way to listen to the music of  waterfalls, from a gentle stream near my home to the crescendo of  a roaring river in the forest primeval of the Upper Peninsula.

Those springs flow into the Au Sable River. There’s a road that runs along the river, more or less, west of Oscoda. There’s a scenic overlook at Iargo Springs. The bluffs on the south side of the river are about 200 feet high, but the Forest Service built a stairway so you can access the springs. It’s really kind of a fairyland scene when you get down there, with rushing brooks, little waterfalls, and dappled light filtered by 100 foot high pines. And the broad expanse of the Au Sable, which is there about a mile wide, I’d guess.
