Photo Challenge: A Deer’s Curiosity Eclipses Her Surprise

Surprised?  Yes, she was…but also curious.  So, the photographer had enough time to get over his own surprise and snap the shutter.

Every morning was a cheerful invitation to make my life of equal simplicity, and I may say innocence, with Nature herself.”
—Henry David Thoreau, Walden

Photo Challenge: Rewarded by Discovering My Own Walden Pond

While in high school, I was inspired by reading Henry David Thoreau’s classic account of his sojourn at Walden Pond.  Last summer, I discovered my own Walden in a secluded forest of northern Michigan.  Turning off a highway onto a dirt road, I found myself immersed in a pine woods, and then a two-track path led to this lake.  The hush of solitude was broken only by the summer breeze whispering in the high branches.
