Kensington Park, Michigan
While in high school, I was inspired by reading Henry David Thoreau’s classic account of his sojourn at Walden Pond. Last summer, I discovered my own Walden in a secluded forest of northern Michigan. Turning off a highway onto a dirt road, I found myself immersed in a pine woods, and then a two-track path led to this lake. The hush of solitude was broken only by the summer breeze whispering in the high branches.
