Beneath a blazing blue winter sky, a palpable silence permeates the Michigan woods. The crunching of snow underfoot, a sure sign of Arctic temperatures, does not break the magical spell.

Thank you, Amy. We have had a long stretch of unusually cold temps this winter and I found myself seeing winter in the local woods as if for the first time. I hope that comes across in the photo.

I could feel the cold from your photo. We were facing 20 degrees below normal this morning and yesterday. Not as cold as where you are though.

Lovely! It looks much like this in Kansas, too!

This is a beautiful image. The silenxe of winter is something you have to experience yo really understand. I say that as a native to Texas 🙂

Thanks very much. And in this case, literally aching if I stayed out too long in the frigid temps! 🙂

A tad colder than I would enjoy, I am certain!

It’s actually quite invigorating for a short time. After that….well, let’s just say that I didn’t like the idea of frostbite so I retreated to a warm nature center building. 🙂

I stayed in a lot, too, Tom. But I enjoyed watching the snow fall from my writing window in Troy. Our Lloyd Stage Nature Center looked much the same I suspect. So glad you were able to get to Kensington to take this lovely photo that so captures that spell of snow and cold weather.

Some people hiking at Kensington feed the small birds with seed held in their hands. The birds are now accustomed to it and so when I stopped to take pics I had the unusual experience of being dive bombed by chickadees.

:0 I am surprised those little ones could survive that cold.
By the way, did you see the meteor? I understand it exploded in your neck of the woods. I heard and felt it but didn’t see it.
